This beautiful nature reserve is over 90,000 hectares, comprises 52 municipalities and has only six hundred inhabitants. It is a low mountain range, with the highest peaks Mont Lozère (1700 m) and Mont Aigoual (1565 m). The landscape is still very rough, but preserved undamaged. In 1878 the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson traveled the region. He made that trip on foot and in company with Modestine, his donkey.

Also taste the local produce, such as honey, charcuterie, the pélardon ( raw goat's milk), but also typical regional dishes, such as the Bajana, a traditional chestnut soup!
